Top 15 Best Time Travel Anime (by Misty Chronexia)
Top 15 Best Time Travel Anime Ever!!
This list is based on Misty Chronexia’s video. It goes over their top 15 best time travel animes.
15. Battle Girls Time Paradox
Battle Girls Time Paradox can be considered the best of the worst. It’s not really that good but it fits the time travel theme perfectly.
It’s about a girl who finds herself traveling back through time. And all the important figures she runs into are girls. And then they battle, it’s about that simple.
14. Thermae Romae
Thermae Romae is a fun little 3 episode anime about an architect that goes through time to visit different bathhouses. It’s a bit of a strange concept but it’s a comedy and it’s a fun watch with a group of friends.
With it only being 3 episodes it’s very easy to get through within about an hour. The simplicity of it is really worth the time though.
13. Punch Line
This is a bit of a weird one with a strange concept. It’s not exactly about time travel but it does have time travel in it.
It’s about a guy who gets stronger by seeing woman’s panties. And if he see’s more than two at a time it summons a meteor that destroys the planet.
It’s wacky and kind of out there. So if you’re into the silliness of stories like this you’ll enjoy it.
12. Occult Academy
Occult Academy is about an alien invasion that takes place in 2012 where the world begins to fall apart. Our main characters go back to 1999 in order to find and destroy a key that’ll make way for a safer future.
It’s a story with some sci-fi and supernatural elements to it. And it’s definitely fitting for the time travel theme as the story is entirely based around it and the effects changing time will have on the future of the world.
11. Sagrada Reset
This anime is about two main characters, one with a photographic memory and the other who can turn back time a few days. Because of his photographic memory, he’s immune to her time powers and they team up together to start saving people.
It’s an interesting concept involving time travel that diverts from the usual tropes it’s used for. The anime itself follows a good story and uses time travel in an interesting way.
10. The Ambition of Oda Nobuna
This one is similar to Battle Girl but better in terms of overall quality. It’s about a guy who goes into the past and ends up meeting a ton of war generals who are all girls.
It has the setup to be a typical harem anime but there is actually a connection that gets built between him and one of the girls. So it is worth a watch depending on what you want to get out of your animes.
9. Nobunaga Concerto
Nobunaga Concerto is about a guy who doesn’t really care much for Japanese history. He ends up traveling back through time and just happens to be a look-alike to a famous historical figure.
He has to play the role of this figure and is tasked with uniting Japan in the past. It’s a nice little time travel story focusing on some Japanese history and tells its story in an interesting way.
8. Inuyasha
This anime is about a fifteen-year-old girl who falls through a well into a demon realm. The demon realm itself is actually like time traveling back into feudal Japan so there is literal time travel.
Our main character teams up with a half-demon and a group of companions as they go to track down shards of an ancient jewel to keep them out of the hands of an evil demon that wants it. Inuyasha is a classic anime that plays with the rules of traveling back and forth between modern and feudal times and does it pretty flawlessly.
7. Charlotte
Charlotte is an interesting anime taking place in a world where everyone has their own unique power or talent. Our main character has the power to put his mind into another person body and uses this to further his intelligence and other points of his life.
But another character comes along with the power to send his mind into the past. And they end up using his power to try and prevent something from happening that seems otherwise unavoidable. It’s an interesting take on a time travel power and the world its set in is really unique.
6. Re: Zero
Re: Zero is the story about a guy who wakes up in a fantasy world and ends up on an adventure of a lifetime. The only problem is that every time he dies he gets taken back in time to before it happens.
The story becomes heavily focused on him trying to alter events leading up to his deaths. Bringing a unique take on telling the story and showing some interesting ways to use time travel as a plot device rather than the motive of the story.
5. Madoka Magica
This is an oldie but a goodie. Madoka Magica is the story of a group of girls who can turn into witches and fight monsters. It’s very straightforward and has almost nothing to do with time travel.
Until toward the very end where they bring in the time travel twist and you realize it’s been there the whole time. It’s one of those things where once you learn it all of the pieces fall into place and it is brilliant.
4. Erased
Erased is the story about a run of the mill pizza guy who has the power of foresight that works by letting him put his mind into the past. He ends up putting his mind to his eleven-year-old self during a time where a close childhood friend was murdered.
With prior knowledge of what happened, he starts trying to alter the events of his friend’s murder to change what happens. It’s an interesting story of having knowledge of the future and being in the past with the power to do something about it.
3. The Tatami Galaxy
Tatami Galaxy is an interesting one that isn’t really for everybody. The art style is different but unique and it’s where a lot of people get turned off.
It’s about a college student in his third year who has a lot of problems and regrets. He ends up meeting a special person who sends him back in time to the start of his first year.
It’s a story about being given a second chance or a do-over with time travel. It becomes a charming romantic comedy and it’s worth a watch even if it is different.
2. Steins; Gate
This is one most people have probably seen so anyone who knows about it knows the functionality of the time travel. It’s a story about a mad scientist who finds a way to go back in time.
By doing so he tries to prevent a certain event from happening. But every time he does it changes something else in a butterfly effect fashion.
It’s the kind of story where you have to give it all of your attention while watching. Miss a single detail and you could be completely lost in the story.
1. Your Name/The Girl Who Leapt Through Time/Fireworks
This is a triple threat entry with 3 different anime movies. The first is Your Name which has a very faint touch of time travel to it but it is there.
It’s about halfway through the movie and would be some heavy spoilers for the film. But Your Name is great so there’s no better reason to go watch it.
Next is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It’s a movie about a girl who can literally time jump and the ending could be considered bittersweet so it’s worth a watch to find your own thoughts on it.
And lastly is Fireworks. It’s a story about a girl that wants to run away and a boy who can use a small sphere to rewind time.
It’s one of those movies where the journey is more important than the destination. But any of these three movies are good entries involving the subject matter.
